Assistant Manager, Commercial · T.K. Group of Industries

I run Bangladesh’s import cycle for a living — and I teach exactly how it works.

PI → L/C → Bank → Port → Customs → Factory

Eleven years on real import desks in Dhaka — FMCG, spinning and textiles, and garments. I teach the same sequence I run every week, through live workshops, free commercial calculators, and sanitised real documents.

Second course

Deemed & Local Export Operations

The import workshop covers goods coming in. This one covers deemed export — supplying knitting, dyeing, printing and washing mills against Back-to-Back L/C, from purchase order through UD/UP to PRC and payment realisation. I ran this cycle end to end before moving to the import desk.

Course outline — 4 sessions
  1. Order intake & Back-to-Back L/CReceiving the buyer’s purchase order, issuing a precise proforma invoice, and arranging the Back-to-Back L/C with banks and suppliers against the master export L/C.
  2. UD & UP — the compliance layerPreparing and submitting Utilization Declaration and Utilization Permission, and keeping the file inside buyer specifications, textile standards, banking regulations and internal audit requirements.
  3. Delivery & buyer acceptanceDelivering knitted, dyed, printed and washed goods to the buyer’s designated factory, building the post-delivery export file, and getting acceptance within five working days — including how to resolve discrepancies before they cost you.
  4. Bank submission, discounting & PRCSubmitting to the advising bank for L/C acceptance, negotiating discounting terms, realising export proceeds, and filing L/C statements for PRC compliance.

Rahat Hossain
About

Eleven years of corporate theory won't tell you what I've learned by opening the L/C myself.

I work as Assistant Manager, Commercial at T.K. Group, where my responsibilities begin the moment an approved Proforma Invoice reaches my desk — selecting a bank against available credit limits, preparing the L/C application, coordinating with Finance for fund arrangement, arranging insurance, reviewing the draft L/C, and following the shipment through to customs clearance and factory delivery.

Before joining T.K. Group in February 2022, I spent about a year and a half at Mosharaf Group running deemed export operations for knitting, dyeing, printing and washing mills — purchase order to proforma invoice, Back-to-Back L/C with banks and suppliers, UD and UP submissions, delivery to buyer-designated factories, and export proceeds realised against PRC. That gave me the commercial cycle from the export and customer side, not just import.

Before that, I spent five and a half years at Salma Group handling import L/C operations across At Sight, UPAS, Deferred, EDF and OBU with both government and private banks, alongside project loan proposals and working capital renewals — including a stretch cutting government-bank L/C turnaround from seven days to two, and negotiating EDF financing at under half the rate of standard L/C financing.

I completed my Master's in Procurement and Supply Management (MPSM) at BRAC University's Institute of Governance and Development, with a practicum built entirely from that real workflow. Commercial operations are usually explained through policy and theory — the reality is a chain of handovers between banks, insurers, shipping lines, C&F agents, customs and finance teams, each with its own documentation and deadlines. I share that process — plainly, in sequence, the way I'd explain it to someone new on my team — through this workshop, documentation templates, and my YouTube channel.

Alongside that, I'm building LC ERP V3 — a practical digital tool for tracking L/C, shipment, documentation and customs duty in one place — because the same commercial problems I explain in the workshop are the ones I'm trying to solve with better process, automation and AI.

Short, practical writing — the same way I'd explain it to someone I mentor.

New posts added regularly, alongside the YouTube channel.

The EDF financing question most importers never ask

When I handled import L/C operations at Salma Group, one decision mattered more than most people realized: whether to fund a shipment through EDF or fall back on standard bank financing. EDF ran 3.5–4.0% against alternatives quoted at 6.5–16% — a gap most commercial teams never negotiate because nobody asks the bank directly. It's not a complex tool. It's just rarely used, because it's rarely asked about.

Why L/C draft review isn't a paperwork step

New commercial hires tend to treat draft L/C review as something to get through, not something to actually read. In practice, this is the last point where a wrong shipment term, an ambiguous document requirement, or a mismatched Incoterm is cheap to fix. Past this stage, the same mistake costs a delayed shipment, a discrepancy fee, or a customs headache. The habit I try to pass on: read the draft like the bank is going to reject it, because sometimes it will.

Eleven years, two "Employee of the Year" awards, and what actually mattered

Neither award came from a single big win — they came from the boring parts: cutting a government-bank L/C turnaround from seven days to two, closing files without leaving loose ends, and being the person people could hand a problem to without follow-up questions. Eleven years in, that's still the actual skill — not knowing more terms than everyone else, but being reliable enough that nobody has to double-check your work.

More posts land here as they're written — this section grows alongside the workshop and the channel.
